How to Reset Windows 7 Ultimate Password After Lost It

To reset Windows 7 Ultimate Password with “lusrgms.msc”, it is based on that you have an admin account available in your Windows 7 Ultimate. Please see the step-by-step guide given bellow.

Step 1: Start Windows 7 Ultimate and login with an admin account. Press “Win+R” keys to open the run box. Type “lusrmgr.msc” and then press “Enter”.

Step 2: “Local Users and Groups” window is open.

Method 3: Use Password Key Disk to Reset Forgotten Password in Windows 7 Ultimate.

If you don’t have an admin account available on your Windows 7 Ultimate and unfortunately lost your user password, an easy way to reset your forgotten password is using the password key disk which stored information of your user account.

You can easily create a password key disk from user account Control Panel in Windows 7 Ultimate. However, the password key disk must be firstly created when you still remember your password, or this method cannot help you reset password at all. If you have previously created a password key disk for your user account, now you can use it to reset the user account password just from login screen.

Step 1: Start Windows 7 Ultimate. When you attempt to log on your user account with a wrong password, Windows will show you a “Reset password” link for you to reset the password. Insert your password key disk and then click on the link.

Step 2: When “Password Reset Wizard” appears, click “Next”.

Step 3: From the pull-down drive list, select your password key disk. Then click “Next”.

Step 4: Type a new password and confirm it. Then click “Next”.

Step 5: You have successfully reset the user account password. Click “Finish” to close the password reset wizard. Then you can log into Windows 7 Ultimate with the new password.

Method 4: Reset Windows 7 Ultimate User Account Password with CMD (Require Windows 7 installation Media.)

If you forgot Windows 7 Ultimate login password no reset disk, you can try to reset Windows 7 password via back door. It allows you to replace sethc.exe with cmd.exe without logging. Once you done that, you can go to the Windows 7 Ultimate login screen and launch sethc.exe to reset any user account password with CMD. However, this trick requires help of an official Windows 7 installation disk.

If you have a Windows 7 product key, you can use the key to free download a Windows 7 ISO image from Microsoft website on another computer. Then use an ISO burning software to burn the Windows 7 ISO image on to a CD/DVD. Once you successfully create a Windows 7 installation CD/DVD, follow the steps bellow to reset Windows 7 Ultimate password on your locked computer.

Step 1: Place your Windows 7 installation CD/DVD in the CD/DVD-ROM of your locked computer.

Step 2: Restart the computer to boot from the CD/DVD. If it still boot Windows 7 Ultimate and show you the login screen, you will need to setup the computer to boot from CD/DVD-ROM firstly. Then restart the computer to boot from your Windows 7 installation CD/DVD.

Step 3: When the following screenshot is displayed on the screen, press “Enter” key.

Step 4: For a moment, Windows install screen appears. Simply click “Next”.

Step 5: In the next box, select “Repair your computer” in the lower left corner.

Step 6: “System Recovery Options” box appears, you will see where your Windows 7 Ultimate installation is. In this guide, the Windows 7 Ultimate was installed on D drive. Select it and then click “Next”.

Step 7: Click on “Command Prompt”.

Step 8: In the CMD window, type “d:” and then press “Enter”. Note: If your Windows 7 Ultimate is on C drive, please replace “d:” with “c:” in this command. Or the following commands will not work.

Step 9: Type “cd windows” and then press “Enter”.

Step 10: Type “cd system32” and then press “Enter”.

Step 11: Back up the sethc.exe: Type “ren sethc.exe sethc_bak.exe” and then press “Enter”.

Step 12: Now replace sethc.exe with cmd.exe: Type “copy cmd.exe sethc.exe” and then press “Enter”.

Step 13: After that, close the CMD window and then click “Restart” on the “System Recovery Options”.

Step 14: Wait until the Windows 7 Ultimate login screen appears, hit “Shift” key five times to launch the sethc.exe which allows you to run command as administrator. To reset Windows 7 Ultimate administrator password, type “net user administrator 123456” and then press “Enter”. Then close the sethc window. You will now be able to log on administrator with the new password. You also can reset any other user account password by using the net user command.

Note: If you want to reset password for administrator which was disabled, you need to enable it by using the following command: type “net user administrator /active:yes” and then press “Enter”.
