Step 6: Choose a new password for the user account and then click “Change password” button. Note: If you do this, the user account will lose all EFS-encrypted files, personal certificates and stored passwords for Web sites or network resources.
If the built-in administrator account was disabled before, this trick will not work for you. But you can follow Trick 3 to enable the administrator account even reset its password by using Command Prompt. Go on to read.
Trick 3: Enable Built-in Administrator Account and Use It to Unlock HP Laptop Windows 7.
When you forgot Windows 7 admin password and locked out of your HP laptop, you can directly enable the built-in administrator and then use it to unlock your HP laptop Windows 7. You can also use Command Prompt to reset the built-in administrator’s password if you forgot it.
Let’s see how to use Command Prompt to enable Windows 7 built-in administrator account and reset the user account’s password without knowing it. Then you can unlock your HP laptop/desktop Windows 7 by using the built-in administrator.
Step 1: Insert an official Windows 7 installation disk into the CD/DVD-ROM of your HP laptop.

Step 3: When the laptop boots from the disc, you will firstly see the following screen. Hit a key to continue.
Step 4: Wait until Windows 7 install screen appears, click “Next” to continue.
Step 5: Click “Repair your computer”.
Step 6: System Recovery Option dialog appears, you can find where your Windows 7 system is. It is in D drive in this guide. Click “Next” to go on.
Step 7: Select “Command Prompt”.
Step 8: When the command prompt window appears, type in “d:” and then press “Enter”. (Note: If your Windows 7 system is in C drive, please replace “d:” with “c:”. Or the after commands will not work.)
Step 9: Type in “cd windows” and then press “Enter”.
Step 10: Type in “cd system” and then press “Enter”.
Step 11: Type in “ren sethc.exe sethc_bak.exe” and then press “Enter”.
Step 12: Type in “copy cmd.exe sethc.exe” and then press “Enter”. The sethc will be replaced with cmd.
Step 13: Close Command Prompt and then click “Restart” to restart the laptop.
Step 14: When Windows 7 login screen appears, hit “Shift” key five times to run sethc command tool. In the command window, type in “net user” and then press “Enter”. You will see all user accounts of your Windows 7 system.
Step 15: To enable the built-in administrator account, type in “net user administrator /active:yes” and then press “Enter”. To reset the built-in administrator’s password, type in “net user administrator 123456” and then press “Enter”.
Step 16: Close the command window and restart the computer.
Step 17: When Windows 7 welcome screen appears, the built-in administrator will be displayed in front of your admin account. Now you can use the new password to log on administrator and unlock your HP laptop Windows 7.
